| Obverse description | Central field features the crowned Portuguese royal arms, displaying the traditional quartered shield with the five escutcheons of the kingdom of Portugal and the red bordure charged with castles, all surmounted by a royal crown. The shield is ornately mantled and set within a plain field. The date 1854 appears in the lower exergue beneath the coat of arms. The entire design is enclosed within a dentilated border running around the coin's rim. |
