Obverse description Central field displays a six-part ornate heraldic shield, with the arms of Salzburg and Austria occupying the upper two sections and four quarters of the Archbishop's personal arms below. A cardinal's hat surmounts the achievement. The encircling legend, commencing at approximately 2 o'clock, reads the Latin titulature of Archbishop Maximilian Gandolph, identifying him as Archbishop of Salzburg and Legate of the Apostolic See.

Reverse description St. Rupert, patron saint of Salzburg, is depicted seated facing forward, holding a salt box in his right hand and a crozier in his left, rendered in the baroque ecclesiastical style typical of the period. A mitre device divides the surrounding legend, which commences at approximately 2 o'clock and identifies the saint as Bishop of Salzburg. The date appears at the upper left of the design, and the denomination XV is displayed within a decorative cartouche or frame in the lower field.
