The surrounding legend reads LEOPOLDVS D G R I S A A G H B REX, an abbreviation of Leopoldus Dei Gratia Romanorum Imperator Semper Augustus, ac Germaniae, Hungariae, Bohemiaeque Rex, rendered in Latin characters. Leopold I's early 15 Kreuzer issues from Vienna present a persistent attribution problem: the mint mark distinction between Vienna and Hall production in this period is not always clean, which is almost certainly why this catalog entry carries a question mark on the mint. The 1660 date places this squarely in the opening years of Leopold's reign, which began in 1658 after a contested imperial election in which France actively lobbied against his candidacy. Herinek 1111 is a recognized reference point, but die marriages within this type vary considerably.
