Leopold I's 15 Kreuzer issues from Graz fall within the period of the Great Turkish War, when Habsburg finances were under sustained pressure from sustained Ottoman campaigning in Hungary. The Graz mint, serving the Inner Austrian territories, maintained output throughout this period partly to fund military operations and partly to satisfy regional demand as coinage from other mints became unreliable in circulation.
Herinek 944–952 documents at least nine die variants across the nineteen-year run, making date collection a serious pursuit. The 1686 issues are generally the most elusive within the sequence.
