Additional information

Montfort-Peggau was a minor Styrian comital line whose coinage output was limited and short-lived, making any survivor from the county's minting activity genuinely scarce by simple weight of numbers. John VIII — Johann VIII von Montfort — ruled a territorially fragmented lordship under constant pressure from the Habsburgs, who had been absorbing Montfort lands piecemeal throughout the seventeenth century. The 1676 issue falls near the end of independent Montfort coinage activity before the line's extinction.

KM#49 is infrequently traded and poorly documented in most auction records.
