15 Kreuzers Dárda

The Gräflich-Herrschaftliche Rentamts-Kasse zu Darda was a manorial estate treasury — not a bank, not a government body — issuing scrip against the assets of a local noble household. This kind of feudal small-change substitute flourished in the early nineteenth century across the Habsburg periphery, where chronic shortages of low-denomination coin forced landowners to paper over the gap themselves. Darda, then part of the Kingdom of Slavonia, was deep in that world.

Ambrus #87 is among the more obscure entries in the corpus of Hungarian-area notgeld. Survival rate for these estate-issue notes is poor — they were redeemed locally, with no central archive and no collector culture to preserve them at the time.
