Obverse description Draped bust of Elector Charles Louis (Karl Ludwig) facing right, with long flowing hair falling to the shoulders, set within a beaded inner circle. The portrait is rendered in a naturalistic baroque style typical of mid-seventeenth-century German coinage. The encircling Latin legend reads CAROLVS LVD D G C P R S R I A T & E, identifying the ruler as Elector Palatine and Arch-Treasurer of the Holy Roman Empire. A dotted border frames the entire obverse field.
