Obverse description A rampant bear, the heraldic symbol of St. Gallen, faces left at center, its forelegs raised in a bold posture. The figure is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the fur and musculature, set within a plain inner circle. A small circular cartouche containing the denomination numeral '5' (for 15 Kreuzer) appears at the base of the field. The circular legend surrounding the design reads MON : NOVA : ST : GALLENSIS, identifying this as a new coinage of St. Gallen. The milled edge border frames the composition cleanly.
