Wenceslaus IV inherited the Bohemian crown in 1378 and promptly inherited its fiscal headaches — chronic shortfalls in royal revenue drove aggressive minting policies throughout his reign. A piedfort of this denomination would have served as a presentation or pattern piece, struck at double the normal planchet thickness to demonstrate die quality or to be gifted to court officials. Normal circulation examples of the 15 Groš are scarce enough; a piedfort survivor is genuinely exceptional.
His reign ended in 1419 with the First Defenestration of Prague.
