| 背面描述 | A facing portrait of Sir Charles Parsons, the Irish engineer and inventor, dominates the upper central field, rendered in fine relief. Below and to the sides, a detailed depiction of a steam turbine as installed aboard the experimental vessel Turbinia references his landmark 1897 engineering achievement. The legend 'CHARLES PARSONS ENGINEER 1854·1931' arcs around the upper periphery, and the denomination '15 EURO' appears in the lower field. |

Parsons patented the compound steam turbine in 1884 and demonstrated it spectacularly at the 1897 Spithead Naval Review, where his experimental vessel Turbinia ran rings around the assembled Royal Navy fleet at nearly 35 knots — an uninvited intrusion that forced every major navy to reconsider its propulsion technology within a decade. Born at 13 Carlton House Terrace in London to the Earl of Rosse, he was educated privately at home before entering Cambridge, a product of Anglo-Irish scientific aristocracy that Ireland has periodically struggled to claim as its own.
