Obverse description The Irish state harp, the traditional national symbol of Ireland, is depicted in high relief at the centre of the field, rendered with fine decorative detail including ornamental foliage and scroll work on the soundbox and column. The legend EIRE, in Gaelic-style lettering, is distributed to the left of the harp, while the date 2025 appears in large numerals to the right, both elements arranged to flank the central device symmetrically against a mirror-polished proof field.

Reverse description A finely engraved bust of Daniel O'Connell facing three-quarters to the right occupies the lower right portion of the field, depicted in early nineteenth-century dress with a coat and cravat. To the left, a detailed vignette portrays a crowd of period figures, evoking the mass popular movements associated with O'Connell's campaign for Catholic Emancipation. The arched legend DANIEL O'CONNELL spans the upper field, with the dates 1775 and 1847 flanking a shamrock motif below it, followed by the inscription THE LIBERATOR. The denomination 15 EURO appears in the lower left field.

Additional information

O'Connell's 1829 Catholic Emancipation victory — forcing Parliament to pass the Roman Catholic Relief Act after years of mass agitation — was achieved without a single shot fired, a fact that genuinely distinguished him from almost every other political reformer of his generation. The Irish Free State and later the Republic repeatedly commemorated him on circulating coinage, making a fresh silver issue in 2025 something of a well-worn tradition rather than a novel gesture.
