| Obverse description | The obverse features the Maltese coat of arms at centre, depicting a quartered shield bearing a cross and the traditional chequerboard pattern, flanked by two laurel branches and surmounted by a mural crown. A scroll below the shield bears the legend REPUBBLIKA TA' MALTA. The country name MALTA appears in the left field, and the date 2014 is inscribed vertically on the right. The Auberge d'Aragon in Valletta was built in the 1570s to house the knights of the Langue of Aragon, Catalonia, and Navarre — one of eight national groupings within the Order of St. John. Unlike several of its sister auberges, it survived Malta's devastating 1942 bombing campaigns largely intact and was subsequently adapted as a government building, serving for decades as the office of the Prime Minister.
