| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse of this square silver coin occupies the upper-left corner with a small circular inset bearing the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, rendered in a cameo-style portrait against a plain field. Surrounding the portrait inset is the legend ELIZABETH II · SOLOMON ISLANDS · 15 DOLLARS. The lower portion of the obverse area carries the date 2022, while a rectangular cartouche at the upper right records the coin's specifications: AG 999 / 130g / Santa Maria del Fiore / Cathedral / Front Window / Florence. The remainder of the obverse field features an elaborate full-color reproduction of the great rose window of Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral in Florence, depicting the Virgin Mary in glory surrounded by angels and saints, with rich blue, gold, red, and green tones faithfully replicating the stained-glass original. The square flan is framed by an ornate milled border with Gothic quatrefoil corner motifs in high relief. |

The Santa Maria del Fiore's dome, engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi between 1420 and 1436, was built without scaffolding using a double-shell herringbone brick technique he derived partly from studying the Pantheon in Rome. No one before him had successfully closed a drum of that diameter — 44 meters — and no written construction manual existed for the project. Brunelleschi invented purpose-built hoisting machines to lift materials, some of which were still in use on the site over a century after his death.
