Reverse description The reverse, designed by Canadian artist Simon Ng, presents an elaborately caparisoned elephant rendered in fine engraved detail against a richly colored and holographic field. The elephant faces left with its trunk coiled upward, symbolizing longevity and good fortune; its ear is adorned with a chrysanthemum in full bloom, representing ease and prosperity. The riding blanket features a central medallion incorporating a hologram of two maple leaves, a hallmark motif of the Maple of Peace series. Various flowers engraved throughout the composition—including those on an ornamental vase—each bloom at different seasons, extending a symbolic blessing of peace across the full year. Chinese characters for 'peace' appear engraved beneath the animal, accompanied by the inscriptions CANADA, 2013, and 15 DOLLARS, along with the designer's initials SN.
