Additional information

The Bene Merentibus ("to those who deserve well") concept derives from papal and royal traditions of meritorious service awards, an odd lineage for a small Polynesian island nation whose coinage program is frankly a commercial bullion and commemorative operation run in partnership with outside minting houses. Niue's collector coin series of this period were licensed products, and this issue is no exception.

At 7.78g of .9999 fine gold, the piece corresponds exactly to a quarter-troy-ounce equivalent — a deliberately marketable weight that aligns it with standard bullion fractions rather than any denomination with genuine purchasing relevance on Niue.
