| Reverse description | The reverse presents a dynamic high-relief depiction of a horse in full gallop, facing left with mane and tail flowing freely, its forelegs raised in spirited motion. The date '2002' is inscribed vertically along the left field, while the traditional Chinese character '馬' (Horse) appears to the right of the central device. The inscription '1/10 OZ 9999 GOLD' is positioned along the lower portion of the field. The design is enclosed within a beaded border and is part of the Perth Mint's Lunar Series I commemorating the Chinese Year of the Horse. |

| Additional information |
Perth Mint's lunar series gold issues are struck in .9999 fineness rather than the .9167 standard of most sovereign gold — a deliberate product decision made in the 1980s to compete directly with the Canadian Maple Leaf in Asian bullion markets, where four-nines purity commands a meaningful premium. The 2002 Horse corresponds to the first full rotation of Perth's Lunar Series I, which launched in 1996 with the Rat.
KM#584 is the smallest denomination in that year's gold lunar lineup, at approximately one-tenth troy ounce.
