| Additional information |
Australia's gold koala bullion series launched in 1980 under the Australian Nugget branding before being reoriented toward the koala theme in 1990. The Perth Mint changes the reverse design annually — a deliberate policy intended to drive collector demand on top of the underlying bullion value, a strategy borrowed directly from the Canadian Maple Leaf program's early success. The 2010 issue falls under Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced across Australian coinage in 1999.
The fractional denominations in this series have historically commanded steeper premiums over spot than the one-ounce issues, simply due to higher per-gram production costs.
