The Perth Mint's fractional gold proof program expanded aggressively through the late 2000s as spot gold climbed toward and eventually past USD $1,000 per troy ounce in 2008 — making small-denomination, low-weight issues commercially attractive to collectors who couldn't justify a full-ounce purchase.
