The Discover Australia series, launched by the Perth Mint in the mid-2000s, was designed specifically for the international bullion gift market rather than domestic circulation — these pieces were never intended to pass through a single Australian hand in trade. The Kookaburra had already anchored its own long-running Perth Mint silver bullion program since 1990, making its appearance here something of a cross-franchise cameo.
The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, was adopted by Australia in 1999.
