The Green and Gold Bell Frog (Litoria aurea) was once abundant across southeastern Australia before habitat loss and chytrid fungus devastated populations through the late twentieth century. By 2012 it was listed as vulnerable under Australian federal law, making its appearance in this Discover Australia series something of a quiet conservation record — the coin documents a species in active decline at the time of minting.
