15 Céntimos Higueruela

Higueruela is a small agricultural municipality in the province of Albacete, and like hundreds of similar villages across Republican Spain in 1937, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when the withdrawal and hoarding of metal coinage left local commerce paralyzed. The Consejo Municipal — the wartime republican administrative body replacing the pre-war ayuntamiento — authorized these notes as a purely local stopgap, accepted only within the village itself.

Imprenta Albuger in Albacete handled small-run printing jobs for several Manchegan municipalities during this period. The Garrió Montagut catalog reference remains unassigned, which typically indicates documentation was compiled from fewer than three confirmed surviving examples.
