| Reverse description | Central shield displaying the arms of the Principality of Seborga, featuring horizontal lines divided by a bold cross with fleur-de-lis terminals, rendered in a heraldic style. A curved legend CASSA DEI CAVALIERI DI SAN BERNARDO encircles the shield within the inner field. The outer legend PRINCIPATO DI SEBORGA runs around the upper periphery, while the denomination 15 cL appears at the bottom, all separated from the legend by a raised inner border with four pellets at the cardinal points. |

Seborga's claim to independence rests on a 1079 deed of sale that the principality argues was never legally ratified, meaning the territory was never formally incorporated into the Kingdom of Sardinia and, by extension, never became part of Italy. Giorgio Carbone, a flower grower elected "prince" by the village in 1963, pursued that argument with enough persistence — and enough charm — that Seborga became a minor cause célèbre in the 1990s sovereignty-curiosity circuit. These coins were struck for that moment of peak attention.
The X# prefix in the Standard Catalog denotes an unofficial or local issue, which is precisely what this is. No nation-state recognizes Seborga's currency.
