Ariassos was a minor hill city in Pisidia, a region of southern Asia Minor that resisted Hellenistic administrative absorption long after its neighbors had submitted. The city struck its own bronze coinage during a period when many comparable Pisidian communities were doing the same — a localized assertion of civic identity that owed more to tradition than to any formal monetary infrastructure. These issues circulated within a tight geographic radius and rarely traveled far.

The SNG France 1368 reference places this piece within a well-documented French collection baseline, but Ariassan bronzes remain poorly studied as a series.
