| Obverse description | The national arms of Djibouti displayed at center within an open laurel wreath, depicting two hands clasping a vertical spear flanked by two further spears, with a shield bearing a decorative motif at the center and a five-pointed star above. The legend REPUBLIQUE DE DJIBOUTI curves along the upper periphery in large Latin letters, while the date 1991 appears in the lower field. Flanking the base of the wreath are the inscriptions 5 GRAINS D'OR to the left and 24 GRAM. D'ARGENT to the right, denoting the coin's precious metal content.
