Reverse description Frontal effigy of Saint Stephen I, first King of Hungary (reigned 1000–1038), depicted in the stylized manner of medieval Romanesque sculpture, wearing an ornate crown with fleur-de-lis finials and dressed in elaborately detailed royal robes. In his left hand he holds a lance or sceptre, and in his right hand he bears a globus cruciger surmounted by a patriarchal cross, symbolizing his Christian kingship. The dates 1000 and 1038, denoting the beginning and end of his reign, are inscribed to the upper left of the figure. The legend SZENT ISTVÁN KIRÁLY (Saint Stephen King) curves along the lower periphery of the coin.
