Beschrijving keerzijde Plain incuse square punch with a recessed, roughly quadrilateral depression occupying the center of the reverse, typical of the primitive monetary technique used on early archaic Greek silver fractions. The incuse is deeply struck with a slightly irregular outline, the result of hand-hammering, and is devoid of any subsidiary design or inscription. The surrounding field retains the natural contour of the flan, consistent with contemporary small silver coinage of the Lesbian cities circa 525–475 BC.

Aanvullende informatie

Lesbos operated an unusual electrum coinage system throughout much of the archaic period, with multiple cities on the island sharing a cooperative monetary arrangement — rare in the Greek world. These fractional silver pieces fall outside that better-documented electrum tradition, likely filling a local transactional gap at the smallest denominations. At 5mm, the die-cutter's work on such a flan demands a jeweler's precision, and attribution to a specific polis remains unresolved.
