Lauro was an Iberian mint whose precise location remains disputed — most scholars place it somewhere in the territory of the Edetani, possibly near modern Valencia, though the identification is not settled. These fractional bronzes circulated during a period when Rome was consolidating control over Hispania Citerior following the Celtiberian Wars, and indigenous mints like Lauro continued striking their own coinage well into the late second century BC, operating within a monetary environment that was neither fully Roman nor fully pre-Roman.
The ACIP classification revised earlier CNH attributions for several Lauro fractions, tightening the chronology based on hoard evidence from the region.
