The Aulerci Eburovices occupied territory centered around modern Évreux in Normandy, and their coinage developed in near-total isolation from the Mediterranean monetary tradition. The facial markings on this type — almost certainly derived from an ancestral Gaulish artistic convention rather than representing literal tattooing — became a regional identifier so consistent across dies that numismatists use it to anchor the entire Eburovican attribution.
DT 2396 is among the lighter quarter-stater fractions, reflecting the progressive gold debasement common across northwestern Gallic tribes during the decades of Roman encroachment before Caesar's campaigns consolidated the region by 51 BC.
