1/4 Stater with barrier

The Osismii occupied the far western tip of the Armorican peninsula — roughly modern-day Finistère — and their coinage circulated in one of the most geographically isolated Celtic territories in Gaul. Caesar mentions the Osismii among the coastal peoples subdued during the 56 BC campaign led by Publius Crassus, which likely marks the hard terminus for active production of issues like this one. The quarter stater denomination suggests a functioning internal economy, not merely prestige or tribute.

DT 2221 is distinguished by its barrier motif, a recurrent but poorly understood element in Armorican electrum coinage that does not appear consistently across neighboring tribal issues.
