The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-struck Celtic quarter stater production of the late first century BC. |

The Cantii occupied the southeast corner of Britain — modern Kent — and were among the tribes Julius Caesar encountered during his expeditions of 55 and 54 BC. Their coinage developed under direct influence from Gallo-Belgic imports, with the fractional stater series emerging as trade and political fragmentation demanded smaller denominations. By the 30s BC, the tribe was splintering into sub-kingdoms, and the proliferation of fractional issues like this one likely reflects that decentralization rather than any single minting authority.
ABC 204 is among the smaller and less frequently documented Cantian fractions, with find spots concentrated almost entirely in Kent.
