| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse depicts the Indo-Scythian king Azes II mounted on horseback, advancing to the right, wielding a whip in his raised right hand while holding the reins with his left. The royal equestrian effigy is rendered in the Hellenistic tradition characteristic of Indo-Scythian coinage. A degraded circular legend in Greek script surrounds the central device, reading BAΣIΛEΩΣ BAΣIΛEΩN MEΓAΛOY AZOY, translating as 'of the Great King of Kings Azes.' The irregular flan and characteristic softness of strike are consistent with hammered quarter-stater denominations of this type. |
