正面描述 The obverse depicts the king Azes II mounted on horseback in right profile, shown as a dynamic equestrian figure wearing a diadem and traditional Scythian dress including a tunic and trousers. The rider holds the reins with his left hand while raising his right hand in a gesture of authority. The horse is shown in a vigorous galloping pose with legs extended. The surrounding field retains the typical irregular hammered fabric characteristic of Indo-Scythian coinage. The Greek legend BAΣIΛEΩΣ BAΣIΛEΩN MEΓAΛOY AZOY, meaning 'of the Great King of Kings Azes', runs around the periphery.

附加信息

Azes II remains a disputed figure — some numismatists have argued he never existed as a separate ruler at all, with his coins potentially representing a later phase of Azes I's reign or a successor using the same regnal name for legitimacy. The "Azes era" dating system used across the northwestern subcontinent complicates attribution further, as it was adopted by subsequent dynasties long after the Indo-Scythians lost power.

Senior 105.60T places this fractional gold among a small documented group, the quarter stater being an uncommon denomination within Indo-Scythian gold issues.
