Obverse description Youthful head of the river-god Acheloos facing right, rendered with fine archaic naturalism; the hair is elaborately dressed with reeds and a small bull's horn emerging from the forehead, consistent with the deity's bovine iconography. The portrait is executed in high relief with careful attention to facial modelling. To the left of the head, a retrograde Greek letter Ν (nu) appears in the field, serving as a control mark or mintmaster's initial.
