Diagonally crossed in the field behind the bird are the crook and flail, Egyptian royal symbols adopted into Phoenician iconography and associated with divine and regal authority. The design closely echoes Athenian and Egyptian artistic influences, reflecting Tyre's extensive Mediterranean commercial and cultural contacts during the late fifth century BC. |
