Issued to commemorate the Bronze Age burial cairn at Kivik in Scania, one of the most significant prehistoric monuments in Scandinavia. The Kivik tomb, dating to roughly 1400–1000 BC, was discovered in 1748 when local farmers dismantling the cairn for building stone uncovered a cist lined with carved slabs — among the earliest figural rock carvings found in northern Europe.
The denomination of 13 kronor places this squarely in Sweden's commemorative medal-coin series of the late 1970s, which used non-standard face values precisely to discourage circulation and preserve collector quality.
