| Obverse description | Right-facing draped bust of King João V with an elaborate flowing wig rendered in high relief, occupying the majority of the coin's field. The portrait is executed in the Baroque style characteristic of early 18th-century Portuguese colonial coinage. The circular Latin legend encircles the effigy along the border, interrupted by a reeded rim. The Rio de Janeiro mintmark 'R' and the date appear in the lower exergual area beneath the bust. |
