Obverse description Draped bust of King João V facing right, rendered in high relief with an elaborate flowing allonge wig characteristic of early 18th-century Baroque portraiture. The circumferential Latin legend reads IOANNES.V.D.G.PORT.ET.ALG.REX, interrupted by a period-separated dot motif. The Bahia mint mark 'B' appears below the truncation of the bust, accompanied by the date of issue centred at the bottom of the field. The portrait displays fine engraving detail in the hair curls and drapery folds, consistent with the style attributed to engraver Antônio Mengin.

Reverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms of João V, rendered in the second type of shield design, occupies the central field and is surmounted by an elaborate open royal crown with fleurons and arches. The escutcheon displays the traditional Portuguese quintas arrangement of five inescutcheons bearing the quinas, enclosed within a bordure of castles, all set against an ornate Baroque cartouche with scrolling acanthus foliage flanking both sides. The entire composition fills the field to the rim, with no peripheral legend, reflecting the bold heraldic style characteristic of Bahia Mint gold coinage of this period.
