Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a compelling mosaic-style depiction of the Virgin Orante (Orans), replicating the celebrated 11th-century mosaic found in the apse of Saint Sophia Cathedral, Kyiv. The imposing frontal figure of the Blessed Virgin is shown with arms raised in the traditional orant posture, rendered within a decorative wreath of foliate ornament that forms a circular border. The inscription ОРАНТА is positioned horizontally across the field, bisected by the figure itself. Below the central image, above the lower foliate border, inscriptions denote the metal, fineness, and weight of the coin in fine gold.

Aanvullende informatie

Ukraine's first gold coin series, launched in 1996 as the country was still consolidating its post-Soviet monetary infrastructure, was produced in extremely limited quantities — the Oranta issue in this denomination had a mintage of just 10,000 pieces. The National Bank contracted the striking to foreign mints during this period, as Ukrainian domestic minting capacity was not yet equipped for fine gold production at this standard.
