Metuainum was an Iberian community whose precise location remains disputed among scholars, placing it somewhere in the northeastern Iberian Peninsula during the late Republican period. These fractional bronzes were struck as Rome's administrative grip over Hispania tightened following the Sertorian War's political groundwork — local mints producing small denominations to service markets that Roman coinage had not yet fully penetrated. The ACIP and CNH references each treat the attribution cautiously, and the mint's civic status under Roman provincial organization is still unresolved.
