| Obverse description | The obverse displays the interlaced GWC cypher — the crowned monogram of the Geoctroyeerde Westindische Compagnie (Dutch West India Company) — at the center of the field, accompanied by the Roman numeral denomination XII and the date 1654, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The design is struck on a square klippe flan with characteristically irregular, roughly cut edges, consistent with emergency coinage produced under siege conditions at Recife in 1654.
