| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Louis XV facing right, his hair elaborately curled and tied, rendered in the classical style by engraver Joseph-Charles Röettiers. The effigy is placed centrally within a finely milled border, with the mint mark H (La Rochelle) visible below the truncation. The peripheral legend reads LVD·XV·D·G·FR·ET NAV·REX, identifying the king as Louis XV, by the grace of God, King of France and Navarre. The portrait displays the idealized baroque treatment characteristic of early French colonial coinage of this period. |
