| Obverse description | The quartered arms of Geneva displayed on a shield at center, the dexter half bearing a crowned rampant eagle and the sinister half divided to show a key and a fleur-de-lis. The shield is set against a radiate sun with bold straight rays alternating with wavy rays emanating outward to the coin's edge. Decorative foliate and fleur-de-lis ornaments fill the spaces between the rays, giving the field a rich, elaborate appearance. |

| Reverse description | The reverse is entirely occupied by a five-line inscription in bold capital letters across the field, reading the denomination and intended recipients. The text is separated by pellets and rosette stops, with the date 1590 appearing in the exergual line at the bottom. A fine beaded border runs around the periphery of the coin. |
