Obverse description The quartered arms of Geneva displayed on a shield at center, the dexter half bearing a crowned rampant eagle and the sinister half divided to show a key and a fleur-de-lis. The shield is set against a radiate sun with bold straight rays alternating with wavy rays emanating outward to the coin's edge. Decorative foliate and fleur-de-lis ornaments fill the spaces between the rays, giving the field a rich, elaborate appearance.

The text is separated by pellets and rosette stops, with the date 1590 appearing in the exergual line at the bottom. A fine beaded border runs around the periphery of the coin.
