Frederik V authorized this issue specifically for circulation in the Danish Caribbean colonies — the Danish West Indies operated under a separate monetary system from the metropole, and coinage had to be purpose-struck rather than simply redirected from Copenhagen's domestic output. The 12 skilling denomination filled a practical gap in the colony's transactional economy, where Spanish and Dutch coins already circulated promiscuously alongside Danish issues.
The .500 fineness reflects a deliberate colonial policy: finer silver was reserved for domestic Danish coinage.
