| Reverse description | A crowned double-headed imperial eagle displayed in the central field, holding a scepter in the dexter talon and an orb in the sinister talon. The date 1718 is divided at the top by the imperial crown, and the denomination XII in Roman numerals appears at the bottom of the eagle's body. A circular Latin legend surrounds the eagle, referencing Emperor Charles VI's imperial and royal titles. |

Johann Konrad II von Reinach-Hirzbach served as Prince-Bishop of Basel from 1705 until his death in 1737, presiding over a see whose temporal authority was already in slow retreat before the advancing power of the Swiss cantons. The Bishopric's coinage rights, though jealously maintained, produced increasingly limited series by the early eighteenth century — more assertion of jurisdiction than practical monetary supply.
The 12 Schilling denomination places this squarely in the billon-to-silver transitional accounting common to small ecclesiastical mints of the upper Rhine.
