| Reverse description | Central field bears a quartered heraldic shield surmounted by a large crown, depicting the arms of the Spanish Netherlands with quarters for Castile, León, Aragon, and Burgundy among others, rendered in fine relief. The shield is flanked by elaborate heraldic supporters and surrounded by a bold circular legend. The motto PACE · ET · IVSTITIA (Peace and Justice) runs around the periphery, separated by pellet stops, referencing the political aspirations of the Ghent insurgents during the revolt against Spanish rule. The overall design reflects the transitional political symbolism of the period, retaining traditional Habsburgian heraldic imagery while asserting civic autonomy. |
