Reverse description The quartered greater Arms of Sweden occupy the central field within an inner circle: the first and fourth quarters bear the Three Crowns of Sweden, while the second and third quarters display the Folkung Lion passant. The heraldic shield is rendered in the bold, flat engraving style typical of late sixteenth-century Swedish hammered coinage. A Latin legend surrounding the inner circle proclaims the coin as new gold money of the King of Sweden. The overall design reflects the Renaissance heraldic conventions adopted under Johan III.
