The helmet with its distinctive horse crest is the heraldic symbol of the House of Brunswick-Lüneburg. A circular legend in Latin runs along the full periphery of the coin, reading the titles of Bishop Ernest August. The overall design reflects the baroque heraldic style typical of late 17th-century German ecclesiastical coinage. |

The outer legend, running continuously around the periphery, reads VON FEINEM SILBER, attesting to the fine silver content of the coin, with the date 1670 incorporated into the legend at the beginning. The combination of the central cartouche-style inscription and the surrounding legend is characteristic of the fractional thaler coinage of the Osnabrück Bishopric. |
