| Description de l’avers | Helmeted head of Athena facing left, wearing a crested Corinthian helmet adorned with a coiled serpent on the bowl; the goddess is further depicted with a single-pendant earring, a beaded necklace, and the aegis visible at the neck and shoulder. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the accomplished late Syracusan engraving tradition, with fine detailing on the helmet crest and facial features. The field is smooth and largely plain, with no visible legend on the obverse. |

A hound leaps leftward at her feet in the lower left field. The ethnic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ runs vertically along the right field, while the denomination mark ΞΑ (representing 12 litrai) appears in the left field. The composition is dynamic and finely executed, consistent with the high artistic standards of the Fifth Democracy coinage of Syracuse. |
