| Obverse description | Within an inner beaded circle, the enthroned Madonna seated facing, holding the Christ Child on her left knee, both figures nimbed; the date 16-31 is divided to either side of the central device. Immediately below the Madonna, a shield bearing the arms of Alsace (bend sinister) serves as a throne support. The denomination mark (XII) appears at the top of the inner circle, flanked by small stars. The surrounding Latin legend runs continuously within the outer beaded border of the square klippe flan. |
